*get nominated for an Academy Award for playing a morally ambiguous doctor for about 15 minutes of screentime in a really REALLY well made psychological thriller film, yet despite the limited screentime, this performance is what most people immediately think of when they talk about the film… :D

Thanks god someone else also noticed this!
I mean she directly recites Hannibal Lecter lines from Silence of the Lambs.
I don’t think this is coincidence. And knowing del Toro’s love for Monsters.. well..

My broken shipper heart aside, this was another outstanding episode, I am really loving this season! Another great ensemble-feel, even though the characters weren’t all together. Enough attention was paid to everyone and the story was compelling throughout. Loving it!

Also, apologies for no 7x05 Philinda-nalysis – RL and all that.

Philinda-nalysis under the cut.

Sir David Suchet shares an amusing fan encounter story from the set of Agatha Christie’s Poirot in Hastings, East Sussex - BFI Q&A, November 12 2013

“‘Oh!’ she said, apparently satisfied, and set off on her away again, only to stop once again moments later.
‘Thank you for choosing Hastings,’ she said, with a gentle wave, and she set off up the street away from me.
Even as I remember that day now, it brings a tear to my eye. It was so touching, and seemed to reflect exactly how much ordinary people really seemed to care about the little Belgian, even if he was entirely the product of Dame Agatha’s imagination.”

youth is a social contruct

or rather the glorification of it is. no one is having a good amazing time ever. life is an endless train plowing through bullshit at every age from 5 to 95 there is no magical point where shit gets more or less fun things just change and you change. there will always be happy times and shit times but there will never be wasted time because no matter how old you are you have the capacity to have happy moments and fulfilling experiences. youth is just a time to be naive and make stupid shitty decisions you can laugh at later. dont regret not being able to experience going to music festivals when you were 17, go to music festivals now. theres nothing actually special about being young. if you arent dead youve got time.

“ if you arent dead youve got time. ”

Hello! I hope you don't mind me asking, but whats your opinion on people thinking that Moffat was lying about deciding that he wanted Bill in the special when they think that it was meant to be for Clara from the get-go? I just don't get why people have to connect or replace every last thing of Bill with Clara.

And the game is on
scriptscribbles answered:

I definitely would be skeptical. Clara would fundamentally change the shape of the narrative. The character beats would be different. You’d be looking at a different episode.

Twice Upon a Time used Bill to draw out the anxieties within One and Twelve. She’s a character who’s good at asking questions and making unique observations from a geeky point of view. Whereas Clara operates on a more guarded and dramatic level that would produce some very different kinds of confrontation. Her cameo was a great way to tie up the era, but having her in person would kinda destabilize the whole episode.

The only other character I could see really working in place of Bill as the Testimony embodiment and emotional catalyst would be Susan.

Considering Jenna’s limited availability, there’s no way Moffat would’ve written such a massive role for Clara in TUAT.

I think a lot of what this centers around is people confusing the themes of Moffat’s era with themes specific to Twelve and Clara.  Memory, and specifically that idea of recreating something from a memory or the absence thereof, was a key theme in Moffat’s very first season.  The memories-as-self theme kicked off in a big way with Auton!Rory.  The utterly wonderful concept from Deep Breath of “I’m right here standing in front of you” that Bill harkens back to in TUAT?  Also started with Amy and Rory after he’d been erased by the cracks in time.  Twelve’s time spent both in the Fisher King’s statis chamber and in his confession dial - long stretches of time spent with the sole purpose of getting back to Clara is extremely reminiscent of Rory’s time spent guarding Amy in the Pandorica.  Twelve and Clara’s final moment with the neural blocker being “Let’s do this like we’ve done everything else; together,” is another callback to Amy and Rory in Angels Take Manhattan: “Together or not at all.”

Twelve and Clara’s relationship is an expression of these themes, certainly, but those themes do not belong to their relationship alone.  That’s kinda the point of a theme.

Have to disagree here. Whether Jenna would be available to film a whole episode was up in the air until Victoria was renewed for another series and had set up there filming schedule. It was also originally stated that Pearl Mackie would not be in the Christmas episode.

Throughout the episode, there are references to the Twelve - Clara relationship. The most obvious was the “I’m standing right here but you don’t see me” theme. This was a uniquely Twelve - Clara theme that goes all the way back to Deep Breath, Peter’s first episode. When Bill was insisting that she was real and that the Doctor was looking right at her but not seeing her - that was a continuation of that theme (obviously) and would have made a lot more sense with Clara saying it.

When Bill recognizes the First Doctor as THE Doctor, this is another reference to Twelve - Clara, specifically the Cloisters scene in Hell Bent. Twelve tells the story of the Gallifreyan who ran off with the President’s (can’t remember the leader’s title) daughter. Clara immediately recognised Twelve was talking about himself and said, “I’d know you anywhere.” It is Clara knows the Doctor so well she can recognize him just by a description of his actions.

In one of the moments  when Bill was insisting that she was real, the Doctor (12) says, “Then tell me what to do. The real Bill Potts would tell me what to do.” This doesn’t  sound ANYTHING like the relationship between Twelve and Bill. It does, however, sound EXACTLY like Twelve and Clara’s relationship. In fact, this is one of the things that the people who hate Clara the most always point out about her - she was frequently bossing 12 around. I have never heard anyone accuse Bill of this - because she DIDN’T do it.

By the way, when did Twelve ever mention (let alone explain) regeneration to Bill? When did he ever tell her he had stolen the Tardis and run away from Gallifrey? Bill asks the First Doctor about both these things, but she had never even known about them. Clara DID know about both these things very well however.

Towards the end of the episode, Bill asks the Doctor why he doesn’t want to regenerate. The Doctor says, “I’m tired of losing people.” Twelve had said these exact words to Clara in season 9, right before he told her how much he dreaded losing her. Again, a reference, in this case word for word, to a very specific and unique moment between Twelve and Clara.

Very close to the end of the episode, Bill says that the most difficult part about going off to explore the universe was letting the Doctor go. Bill didn’t let the Doctor go - she had no choice. She had been turned into a Cyberman. Her choice was to stay as a cyberman or become Bill again and travel with Heather. The Doctor didn’t have any part of her choice. None. It was Clara who let the Doctor go. She could have stayed and tried to prove to the Doctor who she was. She had a Tardis - that would be evidence in and of itself.

There are more examples. One of the other fans on here pointed out some that I had missed, these are just the ones that come to me off the top of my head. Whouffaldi is incredibly poweful and UNIQUE. When it’s there, you can’t miss it.💖💖💖

***Bit of a post script here: I have never even written another post about Bill,  so no one can accuse me of having “to connect or replace every last thing about Bill with Clara”. I saw the evidence on the screen so I wrote about it. You see I am completely aware that both Clara and Bill are FICTIONAL characters.  I am a grown woman who has long since (I mean,  we’re talking elementary school) stopped pitting fictional characters against each other.

can we just talk about the time that Lupin was recovering from a full moon and Snape taught the DADA class and made all the students write essays on how to kill werewolves for Lupin to read when he got back I hate Snape so much it’s not funny

Lupin gets back and he feels like crap and suddenly his best friend’s son is writing an essay about how to kill him like that is so fucked up

Bear in mind that an ex-Death Eater does this to someone who was in the Order, risked his life fighting against said Death Eaters and lost his best friends to the Death Eater’s genocidal leader, for the sole purpose of screwing him over, and as far as we know he experiences no consequences whatsoever for doing so.

And if that wasn’t enough, he made them write those essays hoping some of them would realize Lupin’s a werewolf. And one did, but Hermione is a fucking DECENT HUMAN BEING and said nothing. Apparently the ‘insufferable know-it-all' can keep her mouth closed, when it’s for something important. Just like Snape didn’t do at the end of the book.

I’m getting mad, so here’s something I’ve realized while reading The Order of the Phoenix again. (Please keep in mind that my books are in Italian and some concepts might be hard to explain, I apologize for my English mistakes)

In chapter 14, when The Trio talked with Sirius, he said that two years before Dolores Umbridge had written a law against werewolves that made it almost impossible for Lupin to find a job.

Now ask yourself this question. Why two years?

What had happened two years before? During Harry’s third year? Oh, right. The Magical World had discovered that one of Hogwarts’ teachers (someone who was in constant conctat with their children) was a werewolf. Does that ring any bell?

But that’s not all! If we take a look at chapter 15, in the Daily Prophet article we can see a familiar name: Remus Lupin. In a newspaper. Where everyone can read it. “The werewolf Remus Lupin”. No wonder he couldn’t find a job!
And it’s not the first time the Daily Prophet has written about him, as it’s stated in the article itself. There must have been a huge scandal when it had all come out.

So basically, when Snape decided he couldn’t bear not having what he wanted (for example, SIRIUS BLACK GETTING KISSED BY A DEMENTOR) and spilled the secret, he didn’t only tell the whole school. He didn’t only tell the kids’ parents. The told the whole Magical World.

He told the whole Magical World that a man who had kept his condition secret all his life was a werewolf.

And the Magical World responded with a law against werewolves.

So, basically, Snape didn’t only ruin Remus Lupin’s life. He ruined the life of every single werewolf in the UK.

But, you know. Bravest man I ever knew.

FUCKING HIT THAT REBLOG SO FAST THANK YOU

All of you say Dracula BBC is bad. It’s bad because it’s not according to the canon of Bram Stoker, it is bad because it was transferred to the present, it is bad because it looks like Sherlock.

Allow me to ask. Did you thought that would be different? This is Dracula from Moffat and Gatiss. These people gave us Sherlock, gave the Doctor — games with time and canons are their specialty. They did not claim to be accurate versions. They always add hints, make references, make up a familiar picture and bring the books to the point of absurdity. For this we love them. We love Moffat and Gatiss for their style. They are professionals in their niche.

Tell me, weren’t you scared when Johnny wandered around the castle? Were you not disgusted when the flies were sitting on the eyes of the characters, when characters tear off their nails? Were you not impressed with the chemistry between Agatha and Dracula at the gates of the monastery? You were not happy with remarks like “you walk here naked, and they are nuns, dude” “I am not tempted to open the gate to a toothy and hungry wolf, Sister”? You did not empathize with the characters on the ship? Didn’t you feel your brain telling you “wait a moment, a spotlight was directed at him, but there weren’t any spotlights in the 19th century hoLD ON WAIT A MINUTE»

Didn’t you feel the disgust and touching moment when Jack kissed the charred Lucy?

Do not say that you do not feel all these moments as I do. Or do you all really lack paprika in Dracula?

Yes, this is not a perfect Dracula. This is his reflection in the mirror of the style of Moffat and Gaithiss. This is what these friends scriptwritiers do. And they do this well. Play stereotypes, cliches and ENT. They are artists.

Dracula is aimed at a specific audience, you can be part of it, you can be not, but expect direct repetition of the classics from Dracula, just like waiting for smartphones in a movie about steampunk.

Please look at Dracula as a fanfiction. Good fanfiction (and very expensive fanfiction). From good screenwriters and admirers of classics. Enjoy the moment and don’t get too angry
